This number is not to be used unless you actually have an account with Capital One Auto Finance, as it sets up an ironclad lockout unless you're willing to provide your account number or your Social Security number.
When I dialed, I was first asked to provide my 13-digit Capital One Auto Finance account number. If I didn't know it, I could instead hit the pound key. Not having an account, I hit the pound key. I was then told to enter my Social Security number to access my account. I decided to hit the pound key again to see if that would get me anywhere. The system told me that it would need my Social Security number to access my account.
I again hit the pound key, and the system again told me that I needed to enter my nine-digit Social Security number to access my account. Once again, I hit the pound key, and the system asked me one more time for my Social Security number. This time, after hitting the pound key, the system didn't give me a chance to provide my number or do anything else. It simply said, "Thank you for calling Capital One Auto Finance. Goodbye."
Based on this experience, I'm impressed with the ironclad lockout that Capital One has set up. I'm not surprised it exists, as this is sensitive information and there's no reason to use this number unless you have an account with them. However, the four strikes and you're out system is a fairly unique feature. Most numbers like this will give you nearly unlimited attempts to enter your information, whereas this one makes it practically impossible for anyone to get in when they shouldn't have proper access. If I did have need for this number, I would feel comfortable using it.

When you're looking to schedule a call with Capital One Auto Finance, here's an important note about busy times, hold times, and finding the best time to call. When we talk about "busy" or "less busy" times, we're simply referring to the volume of calls coming in. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Capital One Auto Finance phone number, while the least busy times naturally have fewer callers. However, a high call volume doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a long hold time. Companies like Capital One Auto Finance staff their call centers differently throughout the day and week. So, surprisingly, you might even find a shorter wait time during their busiest periods. Ultimately, when we talk about the "best time to call," we're looking for that sweet spot: a combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.
If you're calling Capital One Auto Finance, Wednesday's usually the least busy day. Monday, however, is the busiest, seeing an average of 23% more calls. Just so you know, this is based on a sample of 4,224 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone over the last 90 days. Mon Busiest Tue Wed Quietest Thu Fri Mon Busiest Wed Quietest
Our data shows the shortest hold times are on Thursday. On average, the longest wait in the queue is on Wednesday, which is a whopping 873% longer than the minimum. You'll notice that hold times fluctuate a lot more throughout the week compared to call volume. But honestly, if you're using our free call and talk for me or wait on hold for me service, you won't really have to stress about average wait times anyway. Our call and talk for me or wait on hold for me service covers all days: Mon, Tue, Wed (Longest), Thu (Shortest), Fri. We manage both the Wed Longest and Thu Shortest periods for you.
So, the best day to call Capital One Auto Finance is Thursday. It isn't the least busy day, but the shortest hold times, even though it's on the busy side, indicate Capital One Auto Finance staffs up on Thursday to handle the higher call volume. That's what makes it the best time to call.
By Jeff Whelpley You really shouldn't use this number unless you already have a Capital One Auto Finance account. Seriously, it's designed with an 'ironclad lockout' โ you won't get anywhere unless you're ready to give up your account number or your Social Security number. When I called, the first thing it asked for was my 13-digit Capital One Auto Finance account number. If I didn't have it, I could just hit the pound key instead. Since I don't have an account, that's exactly what I did โ I hit the pound key. Then, it told me to enter my Social Security number to get into my account. I figured I'd try hitting the pound key again, just to see if it would lead me somewhere different. Nope, the system just repeated that it needed my Social Security number to access my account. So, I hit the pound key once more, and sure enough, it told me again that I had to enter my nine-digit Social Security number to access my account. I gave it one last try, hitting the pound key, and the system asked for my Social Security number yet again. But this time, after my final pound key press, the system didn't even give me another chance to enter a number or do anything else. It simply stated, "Thank you for calling Capital One Auto Finance. Goodbye." and disconnected. Honestly, after all that, I'm pretty impressed with the 'ironclad lockout' Capital One has put in place. It's not surprising that something like this exists, given how sensitive this information is. There's really no good reason for anyone to call this number unless they genuinely have an account. What *is* fairly unique, though, is their 'four strikes and you're out' system. Usually, these kinds of numbers let you try entering your info almost endlessly. But this one makes it practically impossible for someone without proper access to actually get in. I'd feel comfortable using this number if I ever needed it.
