Consider using our free service that calls and talks to customer service for you, then sends you a report. Or use our free service that waits on hold and tells you when a human rep is on the line. But if those options don't appeal to you, our team has also documented the phone menu for ComEd below.

Let us call and talk to ComEd for you

Our AI powered phone can dial, navigate the phone menu, wait on hold, and even talk to customer service for you, for free. You don't even need to learn about the path through the various phone options.

We can get a live person on the line for you

That same, free CallHelpdesk Phone can call and navigate the menus and wait on hold for you, but you can opt to do all the talking. We notify you when a rep is on the line and ready to talk, so no need to worry about changing menu options and weaving your way through the maze.
Of course, we completely understand if you prefer to do all the dialing, waiting, and talking yourself. All of these free tools are optional.
CallHelpdesk researchers routinely call this ComEd phone number to document the phone system.
Here is how our research team describes the way the ComEd phone system greets you: For electrical issues or power outages, press 1. To pay your bill, press 2. For everything else, press 3.
Here is our latest tip for weaving through the phone menu to get to a real person the fastest: Press 3 at the first menu. Then press 2.
Below are some clips we've found from ComEd's phone menus and tips that help give an idea of what you will encounter when you call. We've highlighted why they are important as well:

What are the hours and when should I call?

ComEd operates the call center for this 800-334-7661 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Thursday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 1,122 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).

Call when they- and you- are open

When you use our free AI-powered phone to call and talk, wait on hold, or navigate for you, you can also schedule the call with ComEd at a time when they are open and when it works for you. We will confirm you are ready before placing the call, just in case. That means you can "set it and forget it" ahead of time.
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this ComEd phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like ComEd staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

The least busy time to call

The least busy day to call ComEd is Sunday. The most busy day to call is Tuesday, which averages 414% more phone calls by comparison. Again, this is based on a sample of 1,122 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.

The shortest wait on hold

We measured the shortest hold times to be on Thursday. The longest wait in the queue on average occurs on Friday, which is 736% longer than the minimum. As you can see, there is more fluctuation in hold time over the course of the week than there is in call volume.
But if you use our free call and talk for me or wait on hold for me service, you don't really need to worry about average wait times.

The best time to call ComEd

In summation, the best day to call ComEd is Thursday. It isn't the least busy day, but the fact that hold times are shortest combined with it being on the busy side tells us that ComEd staffs up on Thursday to handle the higher call volume, and that makes it the best time to call.

Calling this ComEd Customer Number

Adam Goldkamp is the editor / author responsible for this content.
Sep 17, 2024

I just moved into a new apartment and have to switch the electricity into my name. The electrical company in this town is ComEd who I have no experience with since I'm new to the region, so I decided to call to get my service transferred. I figured a quick call might be the easiest way to get signed up, but based on the wait time maybe it isn't. It seems that ComEd is overloaded with customers right now and isn't offering the best service, but they did offer callback service so that at least made it a little better.

When I first called, a voice assistant informed me right away that the wait times are large enough that they opened another day for phone calls. They stated, "Welcome to ComEd. We are experiencing long wait times of over one hour to speak to an agent. For easy, on-the-go access, ComEd.com and the mobile app are available 24/7. To continue to service our customers, the call center will be available on Saturday."

It then offered me a few options stating, "For electrical issues or power outages, press 1. For payment issues, press 2. For everything else, press 3." I pressed one and then it offered me a few more options to help figure out what I needed help with that included, "Your account number, press 1. Your phone number, press 2. Your social security number, press 3. If you are calling to set up a new account, press 4."

I chose that I wanted to open an account and it asked one more question, "Where would you like to start service, say my home, or my business?" before offering me the option to finish my phone call over text message to reduce my wait time down to 9 minutes, instead of 51 minutes to talk to a person. I opted to still talk to a person, but I did choose the callback option so I wouldn't have to stay on hold and it did take about an hour but someone called me back.

More ComEd Customer Service Contacts

There are of course other ways to contact ComEd customer service besides the phone. Below we list the best ones, by medium.

ComEd Customer Service on X (formerly Twitter)

twitter.com/ComEd - Customer Service
Use the link to connect with customer service through Twitter
ComEd, like many companies, provides customer service on the X platform (formerly Twitter). While it rarely entails live dialogue with a customer service rep, this channel can yield rapid response times and can be a useful option if you have an X/Twitter account.

ComEd Customer Service on Facebook / Messenger

Some customer service teams, like that of ComEd, accept inquiries through Facebook Messenger. This is a good option if you have a Facebook account, and you may even be able to converse live with an agent this way.

ComEd Customer Help Desk / Web Support

comed.com - Customer Service
Online customer service support
As a last, sometimes only, resort- ComEd customer service can be accessed through their website. This can entail digging through help articles before finding a form and "being allowed" to submit a problem to their team, and rarely leads to a real-time conversation, which is why CallHelpdesk does not recommend this unless it's the only way.

Conclusion and closing notes

This is ComEd's best phone number, the real-time current wait on hold and tools for skipping right through those phone lines to get right to a ComEd agent. This phone number is ComEd's best phone number because 14,904 customers like you used this contact information over the last 18 months and gave us feedback. Common problems addressed by the customer care unit that answers calls to 800-334-7661 include Setup service, Book appointment, Change appointment, Meter reading, Cancel service and other customer service issues. Rather than trying to call ComEd first, consider describing your issue first; from that we may be able to recommend an optimal way to contact them via phone or facebook or web or twitter. In total, ComEd has 1 phone number. It's not always clear what is the best way to talk to ComEd representatives, so we started compiling this information built from suggestions from the customer community. Please keep sharing your experiences so we can continue to improve this free resource.

CallHelpdesk does not provide call center services or customer support operations for ComEd. The two organizations are not related. CallHelpdesk builds free tools and shares information to help customers of companies like ComEd. For large companies that includes tools such as our CallHelpdesk Phone, which allows you to call a company but skip the part where you wait on the line to get a live human rep. We continue to work on these tools to help customers like you (and ourselves!) navigate the messy phone menus, hold times, and confusion with customer service. As long as you keep sharing it with your friends and loved ones, we'll keep doing it.

When we refer to the best time to call, we're referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

The least busy time to call

You'll find Sunday is typically the least busy day to call ComEd. But Tuesday's the busiest day to call, with an average of 414% more phone calls. This info comes from 1,122 calls we tracked using our AI-powered, web-based phone over the last 90 days.

The shortest wait on hold

It turns out Thursday consistently has the shortest hold times. On the flip side, Fridays typically see the longest waits in the queue, averaging a whopping 736% longer than the minimum. It's clear there's much more fluctuation in hold times throughout the week than there is in actual call volume. The best time to call ComEd

So, Thursday is actually the best day to call ComEd. It's not their least busy day, but even though it's on the busier side, hold times are shortest. This suggests ComEd staffs up on Thursdays to handle the higher call volume, and that makes it the best time to call.

Calling this ComEd Customer Number

I've just moved into a new apartment and need to get the electricity switched into my name. The electrical company here is ComEd, and since I'm new to the region, I've never dealt with them before. So, I figured I'd call to get my service transferred. I thought a quick call would be the easiest way to sign up, but judging by the wait time, maybe not. It seems ComEd is completely swamped with customers right now and isn't exactly offering top-notch service. Still, they did offer a callback service, which made things a little better. When I first called, a voice assistant immediately told me the wait times were so long they'd even opened another day for phone calls. The message went something like this: "Welcome to ComEd. We are experiencing long wait times of over one hour to speak to an agent. For easy, on-the-go access, ComEd.com and the mobile app are available 24/7. To continue to service our customers, the call center will be available on Saturday." Then it offered a few options: "For electrical issues or power outages, press 1. For payment issues, press 2. For everything else, press 3." I pressed one, and then it gave me a few more options to help figure out exactly what I needed assistance with, including: "Your account number, press 1. Your phone number, press 2. Your social security number, press 3." It started with, "If you're calling to set up a new account, press 4." I chose to open an account, and then it asked, "Where would you like to start service, say my home, or my business?" After that, it offered me the option to finish my call over text, which would reduce my wait time to 9 minutes instead of 51 minutes to talk to a person. I still wanted to speak with a person, though, so I chose the callback option instead of staying on hold. It took about an hour, but someone did call me back. Adam tirelessly helps customers find the best tips and tricks for getting through phone trees and has written many guides for prickly customer service problems. More ComEd Customer Service Contacts

You don't have to call ComEd customer service; there are other ways. We've listed the best contact options below.

ComEd Customer Service on X (formerly Twitter)

Need to reach ComEd's customer service? You can find them on X (formerly Twitter) at twitter.com/ComEd, just like many other companies. While you won't often get a live chat with a rep, this channel frequently offers quick responses and is a great option if you already have an X/Twitter account.

ComEd Customer Service on Facebook / Messenger

ComEd's Facebook page (facebook.com/ComEd) is where their customer service team takes questions via Facebook Messenger. It's a handy option if you've got a Facebook account; you might even chat live with an agent this way.

ComEd Customer Help Desk / Web Support

You can access ComEd customer service through their website, though it's typically a last resort, or sometimes the only one. It usually means digging through help articles just to find a form where you're "allowed" to submit a problem, and you'll rarely get a real-time conversation. That's why CallHelpdesk doesn't recommend this unless it's the only way.

Conclusion and closing notes

Here's ComEd's best phone number, along with the current real-time wait on hold and some handy tools to help you skip those phone lines and get straight to a ComEd agent. We know it's their best number because 14,904 customers, just like you, have used this contact info over the last 18 months and given us their feedback. When you call 800-334-7661, you'll find their customer care unit typically helps with things like setting up service, booking or changing appointments, meter readings, canceling service, and other general customer service issues. Instead of just calling ComEd right away, try telling us about your problem first. That way, we might be able to suggest the best way to reach them – whether it's by phone, Facebook, their website, or Twitter. ComEd actually only has 1 phone number in total. It's often tough to figure out the best way to talk to ComEd reps, so we started putting all this info together based on suggestions from the customer community. Please keep sharing your experiences with us so we can keep making this free resource even better. Just a heads-up: CallHelpdesk doesn't actually provide call center services or customer support for ComEd. The two organizations aren't related at all. Instead, CallHelpdesk builds free tools and shares information to help customers of companies like ComEd. For big companies, that includes tools like our CallHelpdesk Phone, which lets you call a company and skip waiting on hold to get a live human rep. We're constantly working on these tools to help customers like you (and ourselves!) navigate those messy phone menus, long hold times, and all the confusion that comes with customer service. As long as you keep sharing it with your friends and loved ones, we'll keep doing our part.
